Although this altarpiece is sold, Pat Buckle is available on commision and can paint a work simliar in style and iconography to this work (although no two works will be identical), or create a piece featuring your saint of choice based on another manuscript style.
The Triptych here is composed of three scenes based on a late 12th Century illuminated version of the Life of St.Cuthbert with the rather covulted name of the Yates Thompson MS 26 in the British Library. The central image is usually identified as the Venerable Bede, the author of text, at work in the scriptorium. The right hand image (facing), is entitled St.Cuthbert meets King Ecgfrith of Northumbria, and the left depicts one of St.Cuthbert's many sea journeys, in this image with two fellow travellers. Like the medieval originals, this triptych's outer panels fold shut to protect the painted images when transported.
